The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) was first developed in Canada by the Toskan Casale Foundation. It is delivered in Scotland by the Wood Family Trust and in England by the Institute for Philanthropy. YPI is an innovative curriculum-based education program that engages young people in secondary schools, developing their citizenship and employability skills. Young people work in small groups to research and visit a local, grassroots, social service charity. The program culminates with each team giving a presentation on their chosen charity in the hope of winning a 3,000 (British pounds sterling) prize for that organization.
The aims of the evaluation were to:
- Present an analysis of what makes YPI different to other youth programes;
- Provide evidence of the positive impacts and outcomes of the program on schools, young people and communities;
- Provide recommendations to support the further development, growth and sustainability of the program.
